Makarska Rivijera
Makarska Riviera is part of the coastal area in middle Dalmatia, long approximately 60 km and 3 km wide. In the foot of the mountain Biokovo (1762m) and with 2700 hours of sun per year with average temperature higher than 20 oC, Makarska Riviera is true Mediterranean paradise.
Beautiful clear sea has the annual temperature higher than 20 oC. Temperature of sea in summer period is between 25 oC and 27 oC. Winters are mild and sunny, and summers are long and warm. True refreshment in hot summer days is the wind maestral.
Other winds are: bura (northern wind which brings coldness) and jugo, warm wind that brings moisture from the sea and it is very popular among those who like surfing, sailing and kiting.
The centre of Riviera is the town Makarska, surrounded with picturesque villages. In the northwest are Brela, Baška voda, Promajna, Bratuš and Krvavica. In the southeast are Tučepi, Podgora, Drašnice, Igrane, Živogošće, Blato, Drvenik, Zaostrog and Gradac.
During the season in all places of Makarska Riviera various cultural, entertaining, sports and recreational festivities are held. These are the days of traditional festivities when patrons and glorious history are celebrated. Besides festivities, ‘fishermen’s nights’ and other entertaining and sports events are usually organized and held on beaches, hotel terraces and ports.
In Makarska, all festivities are part of the programme called ‘Makarska’s summer’. The most popular are: ‘fishermen’s night’, summer carnival and ‘Kalelarga’s night’. These are usually held on Kačić Square on Riva and some other suitable stages, as for example in front of church of St. Peter on the peninsula of St. Peter.
